Every year when it’s time to take my child’s yearly portrait session, I get very nervous. I have so many expectations and sometimes it just doesn’t work. Photographing your own child is so much harder than photographing others. Because right off the bat, they are bored of you and want to interact with their environment. Mom is old news. So when you can find a beautiful location it makes it simple to just let them play and then do something goofy to grab their attention. But this year was a little different. Liam and I went on this shoot all by ourselves this time. On the way over I coached him on what was going to happen and we practiced his smiling while he was in the back seat (cutest thing ever). We were there for over an hour and he stayed with me until the very end. He is such a big boy now. I actually teared up a little while taking his pictures at one point because he kept saying, “I love you Mommy!” Plus, when you have two children, it seems that the older one just grows twice as fast without you even noticing! I’m so excited for him as a three year old, but I’m not ready to let go of my sweet little boy yet.
This photo I took with my Galaxy S3. I wish I had brought my camera to the park that day but it so hard to have it on hand sometimes. We were on a play date, I’m wearing one child, while trying to keep an eye out for the other one. But when this moment happened I was glad my phone was handy. Liam and his friend Nina just decided to take on a big hill together. On the way down Liam wanted to hold Nina’s hand, but she didn’t want to.
We planted beans a few weeks ago so Liam could watch them grow. He was very excited when he spotted this lone, over achieving bean plant. So far seven of the eight have sprouted but this one decided to take off.
Charlotte has mastered the stairs. In fact she can climb the set of four large stairs in less than a minutes.
No one can make Charlotte laugh more than her brother. Charlotte tends to be on the quieter side but she lights up when her brother pays attention to her.
Fun times at Pump it Up in Hartville. This dude has no fear. It’s awesome.
Just hangin’ out of Noah’s Ark at the playground.
This lucky boy had three egg hunts this year. This one we did after Easter because Daddy had to work Easter Sunday. Liam wasn’t complaining; the more candy the better.
Liam lives for the weekends when he gets to play at Grandma and Grandpa Griffith’s house. This rock throwing contest was only part of the shenanigans the boys were up to that day.
Charlotte, always busy. I believe we have another high energy child on our hands.
The boys were on their way back from a walk when I saw them coming down the sidewalk. So I ran and got my camera, ran to the end of our driveway and barely made it in time to catch this cute picture. Liam loves to take walks with Daddy.
This very smiley, energetic, handsome little boy is our son Liam. This little guy is so special. He has always been so good, easy going and easy to please. (The only exception being when it comes to eating veggies.) He is very loving towards his baby sister Charlotte, (the majority of the time) and is very protective of her. He is also very social and loves playing with his little group of friends.

First thing in the morning after a big rain Liam and Daddy went worm hunting. Hence, this photo of Liam in his jammies, with a bedhead and his hands full of worms.
Liam’s first official year of egg coloring was a hit. We invited the family and had a fun afternoon together.
The weather changes that Ohio produces means endless fun for small children. Even though we live in town, Liam’s favorite place is outside. After the first thunderstorm of the year we went outside to splash in puddles.
Happy Easter from the Hughes Family!
Taking pictures of bubbles is a challenge. It’s hard to get the camera to focus on something that is transparent and is constantly moving. Especially on a windy day like it was.
Charlotte is being held by my youngest sister Michaiah. Aunt Michiaiah is so sweet to come and visit us. I love seeing her with my kiddos. I was twelve years old when she was born and she was always my special little buddy. And then when Liam was born she was twelve years old. So it is fun seeing the same age differences and remembering.
This little lady is Lily. She is almost three years old now! We took her 2nd birthday pictures last year. She was a little timid and unsure of the camera then. But this year she was so brave and did such a good job. It is so much fun watching little ones grow up in front of my camera. As a little side note, she has the sweetest parents anyone could ask for. Lily is a very lucky little girl.
This sweet family are our very special friends. We met when they won a photo session from me three years ago at a raffle. Since then they have been loyal clients and friends. Our sons are best buddies and have a shared mutual obsession for all things Thomas the Tank Engine.
This was my second time photographing this little guy. And he held the record for being one of the easiest kiddo’s I’ve ever worked with. Well, this second time was exactly the same except for the fact he was quite a bit more mobile. Callen is such a sweetheart and quite the handsome little man.
This all American boy has an obsession with french fries. I’m not sure how this has come about since he has only had them less than a dozen times in this three years. But for his birthday celebration we took him out for dinner and to Chucky Cheese. He had a fun night.
Liam received this mower for his birthday and now likes to mow the dead grass like it’s his job!
I was excited to catch this moment with Charlotte trying to touch her shadow. She does the same thing with laser pointers. Sometimes she reminds me of a kitten.
Charlotte can make this walker go pretty good in reverse. We are still working on the forward motion.
Aunt Michaiah and Aunt Louisa are playing with Charlotte at Grandma and Grandpa Griffith’s house.
